Eggnog, a creamy, dreamy Christmas staple in the northern hemisphere celebrations and has a rich history that dates back to medieval Britain! Originally called “posset,” it was a warm ale punch mixed with eggs and figs, served to toast health and prosperity. By the 18th century, this luxurious drink made its way to the American colonies, where the readily available milk, eggs, and rum contributed to its evolution into the classic eggnog that is served today, to warm you up on a Cold winters day during our Christmas in July.

Now we know why Eggnog was served for Christmas let’s make some!! Below is a simple recipe for Eggnog for 4 people, try serving it as a welcome drink to your guests, and get the party started!!

Simple Eggnog for 4
Ingredients
- 2 eggs, separated
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups milk (full cream)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup rum, bourbon or brandy (or essence if non-alcohol is required)
- Garnish with Nutmeg
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks with 3 Tblsp of the sugar until fluffy
- Stir in the Milk, Cream and your choice of spirit/ *essence (if using)
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggwhites with the remaining Tblsp of sugar until soft peaks form, fold into the egg yolk mixture.
- Chill
- Serve in glass with grated fresh nutmeg as a garnish.
